The Princeton Center for Language Study’s core mission is to enhance the teaching and learning of languages at Princeton—a goal that involves faculty, students, and administrators.
For lecturers, the Center provides ongoing opportunities to learn about new developments in sociolinguistics, SLA theory, and language pedagogy. This includes:
- talks, workshops, and roundtable discussions
- theory reading groups
- funding for classroom research
- travel funding for national and international conferences
- summer fellowships to support teaching tool development
For students, the Center provides
- ongoing professional training for graduate student AI’s who teach language course sections
- proficiency testing in less commonly taught languages that are not offered as Princeton courses
For language program directors and department administrators, the Center
- serves as a liaison between deans and language teaching faculty
- provides a venue for discussions relating to University policies on language courses and requirements
